JW Harrington enjoys learning what interpretations viewers take from his abstract and figurative paintings – it’s a major motivation of his work. In his figurative paintings that include people, he focuses on identifiably Black or Brown people, to help falsermalize brown faces and bodies in fine art. He also enjoys giving studio guests a chance to create their own expressions in paint.
