Curtis Ashby is a painter and graphic designer based in the Pacific Northwest. He specializes in murals, hand-drawn illustrations, and design, featuring bold and colorful imagery. His goal is to bring back elements of nature to the city through art. Curtis shares his unique Pacific Northwest perspective to advocate for art in public spaces and encourages people to get out and enjoy what these communities have to offer.

Terry Bader grew up with artist parents, Lorraine and William Arthur Phillips. She holds a master’s in art education and taught art for a living. She has painted for forty years. She’s won numerous awards and participated in several open studio tours. Terry is passionate about the Northwest so her work tends to be realistic in nature featuring Northwest places and people focusing on the Golden Hour of Light.

Interior designer by day, potter by night Alyssa has been throwing for 2+ years. Her pottery is tagged Golden Skull in honor of her lifelong pirate obsession and golden retriever. While concentrating on throwing and sculpting skull vessels, Alyssa is constantly intrigued by where the clay takes her. She has been tasked with making a full dinnerware set, is currently working on consistency, but is always open to happy accidents.

Slugberg is the alter ego of Cole Blattenberg, an artist living and working in Tacoma, WA. Slugwork is mostly pen and ink drawings or block prints, heavily inspired by cartoons and cats and creepy crawlies. If you see a slug, say hi, because Slugberg also has the ability to communicate with slugs and hear their gossip, which there is a lot of.

Tom’s artistic journy took him through pottery, painting, paper art and a host of others, but glass always held a fascination for him. There’s magic in how light plays through glass. He took some classes in blown glass and really enjoyed it, but glass opened up for him when he bought his first kiln used on craigslist in about 2008. He was instantly hooked!

Political Refugee from Idaho and recent TRANSplant to the Tacoma area; Aodhan has been an artist since the age of 9. Tacoma was the first choice because of the access to Indigenous community and proximity to the Scottish Gaelic speaking community in the area. Aodhan’s artwork is a reflection of ancient pasts, culture and inclusion. Tattooing buffalo hides, wampum weaving, ceramics sporrans and tutoring Scottish Gaelic keeps Aodhan busy.

Coming from an artistic background Isabel got introduced to pottery in high school where she practice pottery for 2 years. While in high school, she learned different techniques working with clay and got inspired by her Native P’urhepecha culture to create her unique piece titled “Native Monster.” She sold her first creations to help fundraise a field trip. Currently, she is actively seeking to improve her current skills in pottery.

Lisa Daniel creates large abstract paintings. She pours, directs and manipulates layers of acrylics, gels, paper, fabric and other mixed media materials onto canvas. Starting with a composition and a palette in mind, her process is deliberate and thought out. With multiple canvases on the floor, she pours and works the surfaces from above – controlling the pours, so the paint stays where she wants it, building the surface layer by layer.

Becky Frehse’s studio practice includes painting, drawing, collage, artist books made with found objects, and site-specific sculptural installations with musical instruments—not all at once, but over a long career of being a maker in Tacoma. Her ideas are borrowed from the natural world, gardens, experiences as a traveler. Sumptuous little oil paintings of landscapes and dramatic weather are her current focus. Rachel Frost, a visual artist, creates vibrant collages by hand-cutting her photographs, paintings, and drawings using gouache, acrylic and vintage images. Inspired by 80s Memphis Modern, 90s zine culture, and 60s pop art, she also explores digital art with vintage and AI-generated imagery. Frost’s AI experiments yield playful, strange, and humorous results. Through ‘real’ iPhone photos and AI ‘vintage’ images, she evokes modern nostalgia, subtly distorting our perception of memory.

Lydia Jewel Gerard is a Tacoma-based creative. Her practice resides at the intersection of installation art, painting and dance, where she highlights the overlap between media. Since 2021 Gerard has served as the curator in residence for Lilith Pole and Aerial Dance and Birds of Paradise, collaborating with Dancers and DJ’s to create space for free expression, exploration and body autonomy.

Lisa Hasegawa is a self-proclaimed print nerd whose favorite medium is letterpress, especially when combined with various other media, such as sewing, typewriter, and collage. Exploration and experimentation are crucial to her process, which often begins by working spontaneously, abandoning control and allowing the materials and conglomerating layers of mark-making guide her. These exercises are finished pieces in themselves, but eventually inform future work.

Renee is a watercolor and multimedia artist from Tacoma, Washington. She has traveled extensively from teaching at impoverished schools in India to Monet’s Garden in Giverney, France. Renee is an accomplished illustrator, author, gallery owner, and retired crisis therapist who now cares for my mom with dementia. She uses art as a therapeutic and teaching tool in private lessons and group classes in her Tacoma studio and gallery.

Katherine’s approach to sculptural forms is evolving. She is exploring ways that natural fibers – pine needles, bark, vine, grasses – clay, and wire can combine to translate form, balance, depth, complexity and simplicity. She is motivated by the dichotomy of combining industrial materials with natural fibers and inspired by the shapes occuring in nature – landscape lines, meandering forest floor roots, intertwining branches and brambles, and more.

He has always been curious. That curiosity has resulted in an eclectic accumulation of bric-a-brac, memories, experiences, and books, all which in turn, inspire his art. With apologies to Rudyard Kipling, his intent is to design illustrated books for those, “with satiable curtiosity.” Simple and sometimes unadorned, but thoughtfully creative book designs hide a treasury of illustrations within.

Angela creates abstract collages with vibrant color and geometric shapes that evoke a sense of place through architectural and landscape elements. Materials include her own painted papers, printed and handwritten text, fabric, and ephemera. She is interested in creating works that convey the emotion associated with remembered or imaginary places. Angela’s studio practice is in a shared space with other artists called “Studio B.”

Mark finds joy in creating practical items for people’s everyday lives. Operating from his home studio, he showcased his creations at various fine arts and crafts fairs and galleries in the Northwest. In 2011, Mark and his wife, Eileen, established Throwing Mud Gallery. Here, Mark not only has his studio but also imparts his love for ceramic arts by offering pottery classes to others.
