Kaleidoscope kicks off Tacoma Arts Month with a free, family-friendly celebration at Tacoma Public Library’s Main Branch. Experience live performances, hands-on workshops, and creative activities presented by Tacoma Creates organizations and more!
Thanks to the Tacoma Public Library and our Community Hub Partners, visitors of all ages can explore interactive stations and discover the many ways Tacoma’s arts community inspires connection and creativity

COMMUNITY HUB PARTNERS

WRITE253
Write253 is a literary arts and printmaking organization whose mission is to provide meaningful and transformative writing, publishing, and artistic opportunities that cross boundaries and create community for teens and young adults in greater Tacoma. Explore printmaking and more!

REMAKERY
Remakery is a Tacoma nonprofit committed to the circular economy by keeping crafting and art items out of the landfill as well as sharing skills and projects with the community.
Remakery will be open for everyone and have a free craft going in their space.
Enjoy a creature sewing station filled with stuffed shapes that can be hand sewn into creatures, or enjoy an artist card swap where artists can bring their cards to share with other artists. There will be materials for making cards as well. Artists will be encouraged to add their social media or contact info on the back so they can connect and share.

VAQUERO AZUL
Vaquero Azul is a Otomí, Maya and Taíno, Two-Spirit illustrator and sewist. Their work focuses on Trans Euforia and Mexican & Mesoamerican Indigenous joy.
They will have a Trans Pride Ofrenda that people can pray or take a moment to reflect and honor our community at.

TACOMA PHOTO CENTER
The Tacoma Photo Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, dedicated to expanding community access to photography and the arts. Their facilities include a film development area, darkroom, digital lab, camera lending library and lighting studio. We host a variety of courses, workshops, and community art events. While TPC focuses on photographic media, all artistic practices are welcome!
The Tacoma Photo Center will be displaying their community submissions so come by and see some fantastic photos and more!

OPEN SEASAME GALLERY
This exhibition will feature 25 to 30 local artists who live and work in the Tacoma area, each creating original work on 9″ x 12″ sketch pad paper.
The show will bring together artists from eclectic backgrounds -including comics, graphic design, illustration, and fine art – loosely inspired by the Moleskine Project. Works will include mixed media, sketches, paintings, and other pieces of the artist’s choice, all framed for display.
Participating artists include Jeremy Gregory, Britton Suykos, Kip Howell (Ghost Fish Art), Ashley Laufer, Tryfe, Corey Macourek, and many more!

KLACA is a nonprofit org. founded by families wanting a safe place for our kids and anyone wanting to learn Khmer language, culture & traditions. Experience one of their engaging and vibrant performances!

ACTIVITIES
1443 FILMS
Movie Monsters! Explore the various ways that monsters can come to life on the big screen. Interact with practical monsters that were built for the upcoming movie Wheel Force Go!, learn about how visual effects are used to enhance the footage, or animate your own creations with the co-founders of local independent production company 1443 Films.

ALCHEMY SKATEBOARDS
Alchemy Skateboarding, Tacoma’s only indoor skatepark, will be on site sharing the art of skateboarding with several craft workshops including sticker making, junk jams with spare parts, and materials covering the history of art in design in skateboarding.

TAHOMA INDIAN CENTER
The Tahoma Indian Center will be sharing carving and tool use through their popular workshop “Carving as Medicine” with the community.

HILLTOP ARTISTS
While you create, connect with Hilltop Artists staff to learn more about our work supporting young people from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds through glass art education. Discover how creativity, mentorship, and community can help shape powerful pathways for youth.

The Tacoma Boat Builders will be offering a live carving/whittling demonstration of a wooden utensil or object and will also have DIY Model Boat kits for kids to put together and decorate.

Mi Centro presents: Amano Seattle Piñata Workshop
Teresa Calderon Martinez (artist & owner of Amano Seattle) expresses her passion for culture through art and community-building. As a multi-generational Mexican-American, Teresa is relearning her cultural roots and has deepened her appreciation for them. Her piñata-making workshops emphasize tradition and sustainability, sharing the joy of creation with all ages.

Play and Create with free software Tinkercad! FabLab will have multiple laptops set up for creating in Tinkercad. Learn how Tinkercad and 3D printers work together to create!

Tacoma Little theatre
Tacoma Little Theatre’s education program helps students of all ages to grow to their full potential as performers and more importantly as people. Coming off a wildly successful summer camp season, TLT’s education program will be presenting a number from their summer production Hadestown: Teen Edition. The Tacoma Tree Foundation will be creating a unique sensory room, where visitors can take a break from the hustle and imagine themselves in a city full of trees.

TACOMA STREET TREES WITH EASTON UMANSKY
Interactive exhibit to learn about Tacoma’s street trees created by University of Puget Sound student research. Explore images of Tacoma, community photo submissions and city maps. Space provided to share your thoughts and reflections on Tacoma’s street trees, images, and wishes with neighbors.
